Do You Have To Register Gun Bought At Cabelas

Quoted:

I kid you non.

I have purchased several firearms from Cabela's in the past, and it seems to take forever whether you have a CHL or not.

They  have you lot fill out an electronic 4473 on their reckoner kiosk, and I have ever thought it'south likely they continue some record of your buy beyond fiscal records, across their corporate "electronic bound book". But that is what it is.

And then today I was looking at the used gun rack, and I see a very nice, extremely make clean 1895 Chileno Loewes Berlin 7mm Mauser rifle for $499 (non including the fifty% disbelieve right now).  I mean this thing was probably an NRA 90%, amazing for a rifle that was more than 100 years quondam.  So I talked to the Cabela's gun library salesmans, and he confirmed for me that is was in fact classified every bit an "Antique" and not a C&R or title I firearm.

After seeing that all the serial numbers match, and looking at the diameter, which looked good, I said I may exist interesting in purchasing the item, greenbacks in hand, merely wanted to check 7x57mm ammo prices and availability, to which he replied, certain, but you can't pay cash for information technology at a register, just come back and nosotros will fill out the required "paperwork"...

OK, and then I walked off and said to myself, expect a minute, I know at that place is no paperwork required by BATFE. I know there is non any paperwork required past the Land of Texas. There is none required by the county or the city. So said "paperwork" is Cabela'south gathering information about a gun buyer where none is required, presumably to keep records where none are required. Only considering.

I phone call that a class of registration.  Has anyone run into this before? I don't like buying guns from large box stores, but I find this somewhat unsavory.

Has anyone else feel this at Caeala's when ownership a "not-firearm" classified detail?
TLDR oversupply:  Cabela'south wants you lot to fill out paperwork for guns classified as "Antiquarian" past BATFE where no paperwork is required by anyone but Cabela's.
